Giving thanks and moving forward

November 24, 2016 | Swanee Hunt

It’s been devastating to absorb the results of the November election and the victory of Donald Trump over my friend Hillary Clinton. Still, as Thanksgiving approached, I pondered the need for reconciliation in our country. I thought of other nations — Bosnia, Rwanda, Colombia — where women and men have forged a path to renewal after much, much more severe distress — in fact, after traumas we find hard to imagine.

Here’s my reflection on how we can move forward in our communities, published on the Public Radio International news site.

At the same time, I wanted to send an unequivocal message to Mr. Trump that he must build an inclusive Cabinet and draw from the strength of 100 percent of the American people. That means including women, people of color, and those from across the economic landscape (not just wealthy white men and generals).

My commentary ran on the Huffington Post politics page.
